CRBC: Completing urgent task in a state of health emergency

In Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar which is still under the health emergency controls, an urgent road reparation project was completed on April 14. It was the Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) that provided free renovation of the Routes des Hydrocarbures for the Malagasy government.

The 2.3km renovated road, from the Henri Fraise Company to La City, connects the city center and the Tsarasaotra Expressway and serves as the main transport hub linking Ankorondrano and Ivandry, two of Antananarivo’s most prosperous CBDs.

At the request of the Ministry of Land Development and Public Works of Madagascar, CRBC undertook the urgent task during the Covid-19 pandemic. The company has overcome several difficulties due to the state of emergency, made use of the times during the afternoon traffic control and curfew, and imposed strict safety and health measures for all workers on site. After an intense 34-day work with a total of 816 technicians and 157 sets of equipment participated, the renovation project has been timely delivered.

On behalf of President Andry Rajoelina, Hajo Andrianainarivelo, Minister of Land Development and Public Works, expressed gratitude to CRBC for its generous assistance to Madagascar. Mainstream Malagasy media such as Midi-Madagasikara and Orange have reported the progress of the project.

Since the establishment of its Malagasy branch in the 1980s, CRBC, a key state-owned enterprise, has actively fulfilled its corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Madagascar. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, the company has enhanced health management of its employees and supported local communities in fighting against the pandemic. From March 27 to April 3, CRBC invited health experts in Faratsiho to train 564 local employees at the RN43 renovation project. On April 12 and 13, it donated 10 boxes of soap and 60 bottles of disinfectant to health authorities in Faratsiho and Ambohibary respectively. The company will also donate 3 000 surgical masks to the Ministry of Land Development and Public Works and associated agencies.

"The company will further consolidate its CSR actions, provide assistance to the best of its ability to Madagascar, and promote the image and reputation of Chinese companies," noted CRBC.
