The Association of Chinese Enterprises in Madagascar: "Go Madagascar!"

"ALEFA" Madagascar!

This is in Malagasy, meaning "Go Madagascar!", highlighted on the package of a donation of essential materials by the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Madagascar (AECM).

Madagascar reported its first confirmed cases of Covid-19 on March 20. The next day, a state of health emergency was declared. And on March 23, special control measures were implemented in several areas including Antananarivo, limiting transport as well as commercial activities. Many operators and people in straitened circumstances were therefore facing livelihood challenges.

To help the vulnerable groups in the capital, the AECM donated essential materials to the Urban Municipality of Antananarivo on April 6. The donation includes 2 000 kg of rice, 400 pieces of blanket, 400 bottles of oil and 400 pieces of soap, with the labels "Donation of AECM" in French and "Go Madagascar" in Malagasy on the package.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, the AECM mobilized its members and organized several donations, contributing to Madagascar’s fight against the pandemic and presenting an image of social responsibility of both the association and of the Chinese companies.

To support the treatment of Covid-19 patients at CHU Anosiala, the AECM donated 30 million Ariary (US$8 000) to the hospital on April 3.

Naina Andriantsitohaina, mayor of the Malagasy capital, and Rado Razafimahatratra, head of CHU Anosiala, attended the events and expressed their gratitude to the AECM and Chinese companies in Madagascar. The two events were widely reported by Malagasy media such as Les Nouvelles and 2424.mg.
